Diabetic?

I kept forgetting my user name and password but I finally figured it out again! Anyway....

I was having this debate with a co-worker a few weeks ago. How do you feel about the word diabetic? I don't remember how it started but I had never really thought about it. When we were talking about it he made a good point he said we don't say that someone with cancer is a caneric (don't know if that's how you would spell it). Since then I have tried not using the word diabetic and it's hard to change what you usually say. But I have stoped using it. Just thought I would ask your opions on that because no one would know better then the bloggers :)

I HATE the word diabetic. To me, saying "The diabetic girl..." is defining someone by their disease. It drives me insane. O, of course, could not care less. She'll say "Oh, I'm diabetic," without a care and I'm sitting there cringing. So it obviously bothers me more than it bothers her. I've heard a couple of other people with diabetes say they don't care either.
